Ontario cougars

http://www.thestar.com/news/ontario/article/826635
Seems the MNR is trying to 'break us in' to accepting that there actually are cougars in Ontario.
They probably will never admit to introducing them here as it's plausable that cougars could have been here all along. The cougar that was shot recently in southern Ontario was confiscated by the MNR and not a word made it into the newspapers. This article cements the fact that they do indeed exist so charges will be laid for anyone who shoots one as they are listed as "endangered".

I'm certain that the insurance companies were the driving force behind the reintroduction of cougars into Ontario in an attempt to help control the growing deer population. The MNR playing dumb the last few years about this issue makes me respect them even less- if that was even possible!

The page has been taken down it appears. I'd like to read more on this. Introducing cougars in Ont behind everones back? You'd think this will get exposed eventually. It's not as simple as taking a bucket of bass to another lake. Someone has to blow the whistle eventually.

The same thing happened in Saskatchewan, problem animals were trapped in BC and Western AB and moved to the south saskatchewan river valley. They intended these animals to kill more of the deer herd. The difference between you and us is this was done with the sole purpose of controlling CWB. unfortunately they have been caught but still maintain that they have nothing to do with it.

A rancher I know shot 2 in his yard, he cut off the ear tags from BC, and called the conservation officers. When they showed up they asked for the jewellery back but never got it. The rancher has kept them for proof of this. Last year our conservation officers finally stated there is a population of over 300 cougars in the province after denying they existed until that point.

on page 33 of this guide is how they explain the existance of cougars in saskatchewan.

I talked to a senior MNR guy in North Bay a couple years ago and he told me they figured there was over 100 cougar in Ontario. I've never seen any sign further north but have been told by a few people of sightings.
